Start Summer off right, with a hearty German meal at Renate’s German Restaurant in Hanover Park. We will be going to the family owned restaurant with many of their old family recipes on Saturday, June 145th at 6:00 pm located at 7213 Olde Salem Circle.

Dinners include your choice of roasted or boiled or mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, potato salad, fries or bread dumplings, and their signature house salad or a cup of soup. There is an extra charge for spaetzle, but I think it is well worth it. The German beer may come in a beautiful German Stein.

They specialize in pork or chicken schnitzel with your choice of gravy or just plain. Another option is Rouladen, thinly sliced steak stuffed with onions, bacon and pickles. Perhaps your taste buds cry for sausage, try the Wurst (Sausage) Platter, Thüringer, Knackwurst, Wiener, Nuernberger with kraut and a side.

If you can’t decide what to order, try the Renate’s Sampler Platter Grill Wurst or brat, kraut, sauerbraten, red cabbage, schnitzel, Gulash bowl and a side

If you want to come but are not a big fan of German food they have some American alternatives.
